From Finance to Software Development (2019 to 2021)

In 2019 Alex reinvented his career and went all in on software development.

He went through General Assembly's Software Engineering Immersive bootcamp and later came back to teach it. Course Report featured that pivot from finance in an alumni profile.

He worked for the full-stack development agency Crossfield Digital, took occasional freelance work with clients like CampusGuard, and created GrokOverflow.com.

Teaching in public

The teaching habit came with him. He produced a web development masterclass video series on YouTube. His coding channel, @alexmercedcoder, now has about 5,000 subscribers and more than 1,500 videos on JavaScript, Python, Rust, and web frameworks. He also teaches on Udemy, with courses on JavaScript, Python, C++, Flutter, React Native, AI and LLMs, and data engineering.

A move south

In 2021 he relocated from New York City to Central Florida, where he is based today. That same year he joined Dremio.
